Just as people are different, leaders and leadership styles are different. Our personalities, values, attitudes and beliefs influence our way of impacting and inspiring others. Great leaders possess some common traits such as courage, integrity, empathy, passion, decisiveness and effective communication skills, to name a few. How and what we convey through our leadership are attributes and skills we can develop and fine tune when we have a clear idea of the impact we’d like to have and the kind of vision we’d like to provide.

Areas of Leadership Coaching

Our leadership is put into play and tested in a variety of contexts. For example, as;

  • Managers & executives
  • Coaches (in the athletic arena)
  • Parents
  • Partners and in friendships

Instead of telling others what to do, leadership is about showing up authentically, with integrity, courage and vulnerable to inspire people to do and achieve what they did not think possible.  Our leadership is applied in how we navigate our personal and professional lives and how we choose to influence those around us. To lead is about inspiring change, providing direction and to motivate creativity, innovation and growth in each other.

Getting started

AiM’s coaching structure offer different options to fit the schedule, needs and circumstances of all parties involved.

Session Structure

Coaching is a process of change and growth, and although progress can at times be almost instantaneous, trial and error is expected and normal. It takes time for new behaviors, habits, perspectives, processes and thought patterns to set root and find momentum as well as for action to take place and long-term learning and growth to be established.

Normally, a minimum three months is recommended (but not required), due to the nature of forming new thought patterns, behaviors and the development and integration of new tools and skills. The frequency and duration of sessions are normally 30-75 min and 1-4 times a month.

The sessions take place either over phone, face-to-face (if local to Calgary) or through a video conferencing platform such as Zoom, WhatsApp or Skype.

Sample session

Sample sessions are an initial, complimentary 20-30 min calls to allow a chance for the coach and client to get a sense of whether or not they are the right coach-client match. These calls are also great opportunities to ask questions about how coaching works and if it’s a good fit for the agenda at hand. The coach can give a few examples of how a coaching session might look to give an idea of what to expect from the coaching relationship. You can easily connect with us to set up a complimentary sample session here.

Initial session – the Discovery Session

The first session, once the commitment has been made to move into a coaching relationship, is often called the “discovery session”. The client will be sent some material to go over and send back a few days prior to the session. This session is the kick-start of the relationship. Some of the big points such as some background, expectations, goals of the coaching etc. are covered to get the coach and client on the same page and to serve as the foundation for the coaching relationship moving forward powerfully and efficiently.

Ongoing Coaching Session

Between regular sessions, you will be given ‘assignments’ (co-created between the coach and client) to work on. These assignments are a way to integrate new learning, root growth, practice new skills and to successfully move towards your defined goals.

AiM Coaching mainly uses a retainer approach where hours are tracked against packages (3 hrs and up). This way there is no need to check the watch constantly through a session and it allows flow and fluidity. The time can be used as needed, as a quick check in or to have a bigger deep dive. However, we realize that different clients and organizations have different needs and constraints so should you need to time box the sessions or set up a different structure, there is flexibility to do so.

Note that included in all packages is ongoing email support between sessions.

“I am a mother, wife, project manager and entrepreneur. I love my life, profession and what I have accomplished so far. However, at times obstacles get in my way of progress. With Mia’s help I am able to focus and come up with solutions, plans and implementation strategies. The answers are often closer than I think, but Mia is many times the key redemptive! She puts her finger on the sore spot – or actually makes me press the point – and “heal” or find solutions to the problem.I would not have come as far, as fast on my own so to me, coaching is time very well spent! I integrate my coaching “homework” in my everyday life. I am more aware of development and try to encourage and give myself credit when credit is due – something I have learned from Mia. Also, I like the efficient and flexible approach of coaching via Skype. After a number of years with Mia, I see in retrospect that coaching has developed and enriched me not only as an entrepreneur, but also as a person.”
